agents
strata agents is how the binary describes itself. Everything it prints is matched to the build you are holding and needs no network, which is the point: an agent working against Strata can ask the installed binary what exists instead of guessing from training data.
guide
strata agents guideA complete usage guide in markdown, written for an agent rather than a reader: what the database is, which primitive to reach for, how branches and as-of reads work, and how errors are shaped. It is version-matched, so the guide a 1.2.5 binary prints describes 1.2.5.
commands and errors
strata agents commands strata agents errorsThe machine-readable command catalog, and the public error-code registry. These are the same two sources the reference on this site is generated from, which is why the command reference and error codes cannot disagree with your binary for long: both sides come from the release.
If a page here and your installed binary ever do disagree, the binary is right. It is the thing answering your calls.
skill
Prints an agent skill: a short, structured description of when to use Strata and how, in the format coding agents load. Printing it is the default; --write installs it.
strata agents skill strata agents skill --write strata agents skill --write --for cursor strata agents skill --write --for all--for chooses the target and is repeatable: claude writes.claude/skills/strata/SKILL.md, cursor writes.cursor/rules/strata.mdc, and codex writes a marker-delimited section intoAGENTS.md. It defaults to claude. An existing file whose content differs is left alone unless you pass --force.
init
strata agents initwrote 1 file ./.strata/AGENTS.mdWrites repo onboarding into .strata/AGENTS.md. On its own it only creates that file and tells you what it wrote. --apply goes further and appends a pointer block to the repository's existing AGENTS.md or CLAUDE.md, so an agent that already reads one of those is sent to the Strata notes without you editing anything by hand.
Note that strata agents init and strata init are unrelated: one writes files into the repository you are standing in, the other prepares the home directory.
Which of these to reach for
For a human reading along, guide. For a program deciding what it may call, commands and errors, in --json. For setting a repository up once so every agent that opens it starts informed, init --apply andskill --write.
